Mincemeat and Marzipan Tea Bread

  • 8oz self-raising flour
  • 4oz cold butter, cut into dice
  • 3oz light brown sugar
  • 3oz white marzipan, cut into dice
  • 2 well-beaten eggs
  • Approximately 2 fl oz milk
  • 10 oz mincemeat
  • 2 tbsp flaked almonds


  1. Rub butter into flour until like fine breadcrumbs. Add sugar.
  2. Add diced marzipan to flour.
  3. Beat eggs and milk together.
  4. Add mincemeat to milk mixture, stir into the flour and mix well.
  5. Divide mixture between 2 x 1 lb loaf tins. Smooth tops and sprinkle on the almonds.
  6. Place in a pre-heated oven 180°c, Gas 4, 160°c fan for 1 hour.
  7. Test with skewer to see if cooked right through. If not, return to oven for 10 minutes.
  8. Dust with icing sugar whilst still hot if desired.
