Cheese and Apple Pasties

Ingredients

Pastry

  • 8oz Plain Flour
  • 2oz Hard Margarine
  • 2oz Lard
  • 2oz Grated Cheddar
  • 8 tsp (approx) Water
  • Salt and Pepper

Filling

  • 1 large Cooking Apple, peeled and grated
  • 2 sticks Celery, finely chopped
  • 6oz Cheddar Cheese cut into ΒΌ" cubes
  • 1 tbsp Chutney
  • Salt and Pepper

Method

  1. Make pastry as for shortcrust pastry but adding grated cheese and chill.
  2. Grate apple into a bowl and add celery, cheese cubes and chutney and mix well. Season to taste.
  3. Roll out pastry and use a saucer to cut out rounds.
  4. Dampen round the edge of half the circle and place a spoonful of mixture into the centre.
  5. Draw up edges and seal and crimp.
  6. Brush with a mixture of egg and water and place on greased baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes at Gas6, 400F, 200C or until golden brown.
  8. Serve hot or cold.

These pasties freeze well.
