Apple Scones

Ingredients

Scones

  • 1 medium cooking apple, finely diced
  • 8oz self raising flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 level tsp backing powder
  • 2oz butter
  • 2oz caster sugar
  • ¼ pt milk

Glaze

  • 1oz demerara sugar
  • A little milk

Method

  1. Rub butter into sifted flour, salt and baking powder until bredcrumbs.
  2. Add caster sugar and chopped apple.
  3. Mix to a soft dough (but not sticky) with milk.
  4. Roll out to an 8" round and mark into 8 wedges.
  5. Place on baking sheet, brush with milk and sprinkle on demerara sugar.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes at Gas 6, 200C, 400E.

Can also be made into round scones. Will freeze.
